EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND VIELFALT

I developed and created the spatial design and on-air design for the ARD documentary "Einigkeit und Recht und Vielfalt" (Unity and Justice and Diversity). The outstanding film shows the German national football team's path to becoming a diverse unit and discusses social contexts in Germany such as integration, racism and identification.

SPATIAL DESIGN - the task

My task was to develop a set design in which the author and host Philipp Awounou could position the results of his research in the room. The design also had to create the basis for interesting camera angles and, of course, the thematic context of the research - in this case, the topic of football.

SPATIAL DESIGN Development

In the first stage, I developed a number of design concepts for the spatial design using mood boards and text fragments. We then decided on a design that not only fulfilled all the requirements for the research content narrative, but also communicated the topic of football to the viewer in a subtle visual way using just three hanging grids (a metaphor for fencing in large stadiums, cage football pitches in the city and the meshes of a goal net) and an infinite light gradient of black, red and gold.

ON AIR DESIGN – CONCEPT 01

The first concept for the on-air design was based on three main components. The 2D sketches of the tactics of a football match, 3D objects and the German colours black, red and gold. This intentional mix of 2D and 3D elements gave the concept an interesting visual depth and expanded the animation possibilities.

ON AIR DESIGN – CONCEPT 02

In the second design concept, I limited myself completely to the use of sketch fragments. Letters, arrows, dots and strokes were used even more prominently here and interesting image compositions were created that formed the base for the typography. This time I decided against the classic colour scheme of black, red and gold and extended the colour spectrum to appeal even more to the young target group.

ON AIR DESIGN – FINAL DESIGN CONCEPT

In the end, however, we decided on a very minimalist look for the on-air design, as the shots produced during the film shoot in the spatial design itself already had a very significant influence on the design. The two design routes should not be in competition with each other.
